As I described on my last post where I’m very distracted by Hong Kong politics, I need a distraction from my distraction. What better to distract me from Hong Kong politics than American politics? Maybe this is a bad idea. On that note, where better to catch up with American politics than late night television?
I was either too young for the adult humor or too young to stay up late for late night TV. I remember Johnny Carson’s last episode on the news when I was young. Later on I’d prefer Letterman over Leno, long before the fiasco where Leno wanted his old job back and pushing away Conan O’Brien.
I didn’t like Jimmy Fallon as an SNL player. I think breaking in a sketch is unprofessional, and that unfortunately became part of his comedic style. I’ve been catching up his Late Night and the first week of Tonight Show’s episodes on Hulu, I’m surprised I like what he’s done so far as a host. Now that the comedy features are tailored to fit him, I think he finally found his niche with his skills as a comic and a host. I would go as far as trying to catch The Tonight Show on Hulu the next morning. Catching the show live every night is going to make me lose sleep. 😉
